Patrick Manteiga, the now editor of La Gaceta was born July 12, 1964. He is married to Angela Sue Baardse with whom he has 3 Children: Erin Nicole age 20, Emily Louise age 15, and Joseph Patrick age 14. He now resides in Temple Terrace, Florida with his family and his mother, Peggy Schmechel and his pets: 2 Prairie dogs, Laverne and Shirley, 2 cats, Tom and Tiffany, a ferret named Pete and a dog named Vegas.

During his teen years he lived on a farm in Antioch and studied Photography in school. Later he would met his wife Angie while attending Plant City High School. They were married in 1983.

He initially worked for John

Bothwell Video Productions and in 1983 he decided to came to work for La Gaceta in 1984.

He began as an Account Executive working his way up to
Associate Publisher until his father’s death in 1998. He is the
third generation to publish La Gaceta.

He writes the “As We Heard It” column and is Editor and Publisher of
La Gaceta Newspaper. La Gaceta is the only Tri-Lingual Newspaper in America, and is the oldest minority owned paper in America. He is on the Board of the Tampa Sports Authority, the Cuban Club Foundation and the Citizens Advisory Committee for Hillsborough County Schools. He has received the Sam Leto Award and the Golden Quill Award from the Florida Historical Society. He has received recognition from the
Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council, The Circulo Cubano de Tampa
and HBIF (Hispanic Business Initiative Fund, Inc.)
